Jamaica reports 147 new COVID-19 cases, two more deaths
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica on Friday reported 147 new cases of the COVID-19 and two virus-related deaths in the last 24-hour period.
This brings the total number of cases recorded on the island since the start of the pandemic to 130,934 and the death toll to 2,975.
Of the newly reported cases, there were 88 females and 59 males with ages ranging from 13 days to 70 years.
The cases were recorded in Kingston and St Andrew (33), St James (29), St Ann (26), St Catherine (25), Westmoreland (13), Hanover (six), St Elizabeth (four), St Mary (three), Trelawny (three), Clarendon (two), Manchester (two), and St Thomas (one).
Meanwhile, the latest fatalities are a 59-year-old woman from St Catherine whose death was recorded in November 2021 and a 71-year-old man, also from St Catherine, whose death was recorded in March 2021.
According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health and Wellness, the country also recorded 128 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 84,278.
The country’s positivity rate from the latest batch of testing is 18.4 per cent.
There are confirmed 1,162 active cases on the island.
Approximately 43 patients have been hospitalised, two of them critically ill.
